Material Selection Guidance

The swivel mechanism consists of a steel top plate, a steel or nylon raceway, and ball bearings. The seat base is typically plywood or molded plastic. The seat foam is 40kg/m³ density polyurethane. Upholstery options include vinyl (commercial grade for easy cleaning), PU leather, or fabric. The frame and base are made from 16-18mm steel tubing, powder-coated. Floor glides are plastic or rubber. These materials are selected for durability, comfort, and cost-effectiveness in a high-use item.

Q: Is the swivel mechanism noisy?
A> Our swivel mechanisms are designed for quiet operation. Ball-bearing swivels are typically very smooth and quiet. Nylon race swivels are also quiet but may develop a slight sound over time, which can often be remedied by cleaning the raceway and applying a dry lubricant.

Q: Can the seat cover be replaced if damaged?
A: On many models, the seat cover is stapled or glued to the seat base and is not designed for end-user replacement. However, professional re-upholstery is possible. We also offer models with removable (zippered) seat covers for easier replacement.

Q: What is the difference between a sled base and a four-leg base?
A: A sled base has two curved runners (like a sled) and offers excellent stability with a modern look. A four-leg base provides traditional stability and often allows for stacking if the design permits. Sled bases generally do not stack but are very stable on uneven floors.

Q: How do I clean the upholstery?
A: For vinyl or PU leather, wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap. For fabric, vacuum regularly and spot clean with appropriate upholstery cleaner. Always check the care label for specific instructions.
